Harry Dresden Books – Does Reading Them Out of Order Matter?

Jim Butcher’s Harry Dresden books are a series of novels. It began as a novella titled “Storm Front” in the anthology Blood Lite 2 and has since grown into a series of books. Also, there is a lot of longest-running book series. Harry Dresden is the main character, a hired wizard who solves crimes. This novel could be considered the best gift for your bookworm daughter. Harry Dresden owns a detective agency and is friends with several supernatural characters, including Michael Carpenter, a vampire, Murphy, a werewolf, and Molly Carpenter, an immortal. Harry Dresden toes the line between humans and supernatural beings by working for both sides, including the Chicago Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit. In the face of a wide variety of creatures, he works to protect the general public.

The Dresden Files Reading Order

1. Storm Front

When the cops summon Harry Dresden to consult on a gruesome double murder committed with black magic, he sees a way out of his financial problems. However, where there is black magic, there is also a black mage. That mage now knows Harry’s name.

2. Fool Moon 

Harry hasn’t been able to find any work recently, whether magical or mundane. But just when he thinks he won’t be able to afford his next meal, a murder occurs that necessitates his supernatural expertise. A mutilated body. Strangely shaped paw prints. The moon is full. Make three educated guesses. The first two aren’t included. Magic has the potential to kill a person.

3. Grave Peril

Ghosts are causing havoc all over Chicago, and it’s not just the door-slamming, boo-shouting kind. These are tormented violent, and deadly ghosts. Someone — or something — is deliberately stirring them up to cause unnatural havoc. But why? And why are there so many victims who have ties to Harry? Harry might become a ghost if he doesn’t figure it out soon.

4. Summer Knight

The Winter Queen of Faerie has made Harry an offer he can’t refuse if he wants to break free from his faerie godmother’s supernatural grip on him — and hopefully put an end to his bad luck. He only needs to figure out who killed the Summer Queen’s right-hand man, the Summer Knight, and clear the Winter Queen’s name.

5. Death Masks

When things are going well for Harry Dresden, the only way things can go wrong is down. Way bad. A duel with the Red Court of Vampires’ champion, who must kill Harry to end the war between vampires and wizards; professional hit men using Harry as a target; the missing Shroud of Turin; and a headless corpse that Chicago police need to identify are just a few recent examples. Not to mention Harry’s ex-girlfriend Susan, who is still battling her semi-vampiric nature. Who appears to have a new man? It just doesn’t make sense to get out of bed some days. Regardless of how much you charge.

6. Blood Rites

There have been worse assignments for Harry Dresden than going undercover on the set of an adult film. His latest case, however, is a little more troubling than usual. The film’s producer believes he is under a curse, but it is the women around him who are dying in increasingly dramatic ways. Harry is even more frustrated because he only got involved in this strange mystery as a favor to Thomas, his flirtatious, self-absorbed vampire acquaintance of questionable integrity.

7. Dead Beat 

S. Murphy is led by Karrin Murphy. I. and a close friend of Harry’s So Harry has no choice when a killer vampire threatens to ruin Murphy’s reputation unless he does her bidding. The vampire desires the Word of Kemmler, as well as all the power it entails. Now, Harry is racing against time — and six ruthless necromancers — to find the Word before the dead of Chicago is reawakened on Halloween night.

8. Proven Guilty

The White Council has appointed Harry as a Warden, with the task of investigating rumors of black magic in Chicago. As he adjusts to his new role, another issue arises in the form of an old friend’s tattooed and pierced daughter. Her boyfriend is the only person to blame for what appears to be a supernatural attack straight out of a horror movie. Malevolent entities that feed on fear are loose in Chicago, but for a wizard, his faithful dog, and a talking skull named Bob, it’s all in a day’s work.

9. White Night

Someone is hunting down the city’s supernatural underclass — those who lack the necessary power to become full-fledged wizards. Some have disappeared. Others appear to be suicide victims. However, the perpetrator left a message for Harry Dresden at one of the crime scenes. He sets out to find the alleged serial killer, but evidence points to the one suspect he can’t possibly believe is guilty: his half-brother, Thomas.

10. Small Favor

The White Council’s war with the vampiric Red Court is easing, no one has recently attempted to kill Harry, and his eager apprentice is learning real magic. For once, the future appears to be promising. However, the past casts a very long shadow. Mab, the Sidhe Winter Court’s monarch, approaches Harry with an old favor he can’t refuse. One that will pit Harry Dresden against a terrifying foe and an equally dangerous ally, and one that will test his abilities — and loyalties — to the breaking point.

11. Turn Coat 

]Morgan, a veteran Warden with a grudge against anyone who breaks the rules, despises Harry Dresden the most. Morgan, on the other hand, has been charged with cold-blooded murder. He’s on the run, desperate to clear his name, and he needs someone who knows how to back the underdog. So it’s up to Harry to find a traitor within the Council, keep Morgan hidden, and keep himself out of trouble. And a single blunder could cost someone their life.

12. Changes 

Susan Rodriguez was Harry Dresden’s lover a long time ago. She fled to South America, where she could battle both her heinous gift and those who had cursed her with it. Now, more than ever, she requires Harry’s assistance. Susan’s secret has been discovered by the vengeful Duchess of the Red Court, and she intends to use it against everyone, including Harry.

14. Ghost Story

Things start to go downhill for Harry Dresden after someone shoots him in the chest and abandons him in the waters of Lake Michigan. He learns that his friends are in serious trouble while trapped between life and death. He can only save them and move on if he finds his murderer. Even worse are the malevolent shadows that stalk Chicago, controlled by a dark entity that wants Harry to suffer even after he dies. Now, the late Harry Dresden must perform the ultimate trick without the use of magic, or face an eternity as a lost soul. 

15. Cold Days 

Mab, the Queen of Air and Darkness, has appointed Harry Dresden as her Winter Knight. His command is her word. And her first order appears to be impossible: kill an immortal. Worse yet, there is a growing threat to an unknown source of magic, which could result in millions of deaths. Harry must gather his friends and allies, prevent an apocalypse, and find a way out of his eternal servitude before his newfound infinite powers claim the only thing he has left to call his own.

16. Skin Game 

Mab has agreed to trade Harry’s abilities to pay off a debt. And now he has to assist a gang of villains led by Harry’s most hated foe, Nicodemus Archleone, in breaking into a high-security vault to gain access to a vault in the Nevernever. The problem is that Hades, Lord of the Underworld, owns the vault. And Dresden is certain that Nicodemus will not allow any of his crew members to survive the ordeal.

17. Peace Talks 

When the world’s supernatural nations meet to discuss a cease-fire, Harry Dresden, Chicago’s only professional wizard, joins the White Council’s security team to ensure that the talks remain civil. But can he succeed when dark political maneuverings threaten Chicago’s very existence — and everything he values?

18. Battle Ground

Harry has faced adversity before. He has a long history of fighting opponents who are heavier than he is. This time, however, things are different. A being that is more powerful and dangerous than anything the world has seen in a millennium is on its way. She’s also bringing an army.
