Have you read The Lemonade War book series by Jacqueline Davies? My 10 year old daughter loves these books!
This middle grade series, for 8 to 12 year olds, is about a brother and sister (Evan and Jessie) who each start a lemonade stand and they have a bet: whoever makes the most money, gets to keep the money from both lemonade stands. Hmmm…. I wonder what happens next?! The books vary in length from 160 pages to 250 pages. There are now four books in the series, with the newest addition, The Candy Smash, just being released January 8, 2014.
*** Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation ***
Houghton Mifflin Harcourt is once again partnering with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) for a fundraising contest to raise money for childhood cancer research. Students and classes will read The Lemonade War and, using the business concepts they learned, run their own lemonade stands, with the proceeds going to ALSF. The school that raises the most money will win a visit from Ms. Davies and an ALSF cofounder, with runner-up schools receiving Skype visits and classroom sets of books.
Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of the cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996–2004). In 2000, four-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of volunteers across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, (a registered 501 (c)3 charity), has raised more than $65 million toward fulfilling Alex’s dream, funding more than 350 pediatric cancer research projects nationally.
