In We Are in a Book! Gerald and Piggie discover the joy of being read. But what will happen when the book ends?
Using vocabulary perfect for beginning readers (and vetted by an early-learning specialist), Mo Willems has crafted a mind-bending story that is even more interactive than previous Elephant & Piggie adventures. Fans of the Geisel Award-winning duo won’t be able to put this book down–literally!
What it’s about: Piggie and Elephant are talking. Elephant is a wondered and Piggie is not. Piggie tells Elephant someone is looking at them. Elephant asks if it is a monster. Piggie gets the reader to say words like banana. They laugh and laugh until the end is close. When the words are big, I get to make my voice big. When the words are small, I have to make my voice really small.
What I liked and disliked about it:
Likes: When the words are big and I can be loud! I know who is talking because of the speech bubbles. I like the pictures too.
Dislikes: There is nothing about this book that I don’t like.
My bottom line: I want to read this book again and again. I am going to tell my friends to read it.
What it’s about: Even though this book has two clearly defined characters, the reader plays an important part of the story. Piggie and Elephant are not only talking to each other but also to the reader, which just brings the reader in and motivates him or her to find out what else is going to happen! The simple illustrations and words leave things wide open for the imagination of the reader to provide the details. So in many ways, this could be a different story for each reader. I could connect this story to many lessons, but there are times when I think it is OK to just enjoy a book for the story it tells!
What I liked and disliked about it: I like the way Mo Willems uses simple words to create a very interesting and motivating story. I like how the uncomplicated images and words allow for imagination to run wild and interact with the story.
My bottom line: I think this is a great book for beginning readers as well as readers of all ages! There are times you just need to have fun with the book that you read. I think we enjoy this book more each time we read it!
