Dinosaur’s Summary: Edward is a doggie, he goes on a farm. He tired sleeps and falls in mud and buckets. Piggies throw carrot at him and hen chase him. He eats fruit cake and goes to bed. I love the book so much and it loves me.
What Dinosaur likes and dislikes about it: Edward is funny, he sleeps and falls in mud. Piggies not nice, they throw carrot at him. They need timeout.
Dinosaur’s bottom line: Okay, bring Edward to my school.
MOM SAYS:
What it’s about: Edward is a city dog who visits his aunt and uncle’s farm. He can’t get used to farm life and continues to fall asleep or make mistakes. The family is patient with him, but the animals on the farm laugh at him and give him a hard time. At the end of the day, after all his hard work, he is happy to go to bed and get some must needed rest.
What I liked and disliked about it: This book allows for a number of activities: 1. Drawing- Kids can draw a summary of the page, what might happen next, or how the characters feel. 2. Imagination – Children can line up their toy animals and act out each page after they read it. 3. Finger Puppets – Parents can scan the pages in the book and cut out characters to make finger puppets to also act out in a play.
I love the illustrations, children can clearly infer the characters’ feelings, interactions, and point of view. I wish there was more text to convey cause and effect and characterization, but again the illustrations allow children to make those guesses.
My bottom line: Yes, I would recommend the book to other parents and kids.
