Guest Review: Mike and the Dog-Gone Labradoodle
by Chris Minich
I was excited when Mother Daughter Book Reviews presented an opportunity for me to review the first book in the Pet Shop Society Series, Mike and the Dog-Gone Labradoodle by Emlyn Chand.
The fun starts with twelve year old Mike and his best friend Tyler. They enjoy being the coolest sixth graders at their school. One thing Mike doesn’t enjoy is his twin sister Maddie. Completely different in every way, she likes school and would go all year round if she could, but Mike likes sports, video games, and getting on his sister’s nerves. Mike learns to accept and value her for who she is, in his own special way. Also, his sister may be helpful in meeting a new girl he likes from school, Nic.
When Nic’s labradoodle, Baxter, goes missing the kids band together to find him. Working as a team, they follow the evidence to locate the missing doodle. In doing so, they form a bond that leads to the formation of the Pet Shop Society.
The first book in this series is a quick and fun read that will delight young readers, and youngsters at heart. The excitement continues with the next book in the PSS series, “Maddie and the Purrfect Crime.” Time to put my reading glasses back on.
