I’d like to introduce you to another one of my fabulous bloggy friends, Shaunna from Mudpies & Melodies. Shaunna is a fellow book-lover. She was one of the co-hosts on the final Summer Reading Book Giveaway and regularly features her favorite kids books on her weekly feature, Read to Me Monday.
Shaunna, together with her friend and co-blogger Kim, are behind Mudpies & Melodies, a blog that focuses on the day-to-day goings-on of two “teacher-moms of two” who are separated by just under 2,000 kms. They share the everyday “mudpies and melodies” that fill their days – from crafts, DIY projects, children’s book reviews, favourite recipes, and other parenting morsels. So, please take a moment to visit Shaunna (and Kim) and say hello!
Here’s what Shaunna has to say about the importance of books and reading in her home:
I’m an English Teacher and Literacy Professional. The mantra in our home is: “We can never have enough books”. I have carte-blanche when it comes to book purchases – which I’m very grateful for! While there are days when I think we *may* have exceeded what’s “acceptable”, I still manage to find ways of organizing them so there is room for more! As a result of my emphasis on books, literacy and reading, Jessie (4yrs) is reading words very well and Benjamin (16m) can recognize his name already! I know the value and power that being read to at a young age has and I’m beyond thrilled to be able to give of my time and skills as a storyteller to my children. There is nothing more fun to me than story time on our huge, comfy chair-and-a-half with both kiddos snuggled in!
Shaunna and her daughter, Jessie have chosen to review the Halloween picture book, Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson. Click HERE to read their review. Thanks Shaunna and Jessie! For more on Shaunna and Jessie, please visit our Contributors page or click on the blog button above.
