1. What is the book about? This book is about a girl elf, Caramel, who goes on a spaceship named “Stellarcadia” with her friends to a Intergalactic Youth Summit. But she discovers that people aren’t who they seem to be and they are all in danger.
2. What do you think of the book cover? I liked the book cover but her face looks like she is 20. Her body looks like the right age though.
3. What are your favorite parts of the book? I liked how they got to go on a spaceship and how they could eat anything they wanted. I liked that the ending had some surprises and that someone from the other books shows up.
4. Was there anything that you didn’t like or that didn’t make sense? I had trouble understanding the ending. I didn’t understand how the characters decided what to do so stop the villains. My Mom had to explain that part.
5. Overall, what did you think about the book? I liked the book and I liked that it was science fiction. It was good and it was fun to read more about Caramel. I felt that it was an easy and fast read for me because I’m used to much bigger books. But I liked that!
6. Who do you think would like this book? I think kids maybe 6 to 11 would like this book depending on their reading level.
My Thoughts: She’s baaaack!! Caramel Cinnamon, I mean of course! In the third and final book of The Adventures of Caramel Cardamom Trilogy we find Caramel, along with her elvin friends Jemm and Jorde and her human friends, Sass, Kirra and Micah, aboard the “Stellarcadia”, the largest Caramel Cardamom Crystal powered ship in the galaxy, en route to the first Intergalactic Youth Summit. While her friends are all enjoying the journey, Caramel senses that something is amiss and that things are not quite as they seem.
Amidst the hoopla of the summit and having to navigate through teenage drama, Caramel will have to rely on her wits and her friends as a dastardly plan is revealed which places her and her friends in grave danger. Will the conclusion to the trilogy spell the end of an old rival once and for all? Caramel fans – find out now!
Stellarcadia begins were the previous book, Return to Cardamom, left off with Caramel a little older and a little wiser. One of the things I really enjoyed in all three books is the camaraderie amongst the friends. With my daughter being roughly the same age (perhaps a bit younger) than Caramel, I can see that the dialogue in the book, as well as the themes of the conversations around food, friendships, and teen-age crushes, is all authentic. With all the drama that can happen in early adolescence, Caramel and her friends demonstrate how good friendships work and are excellent role models for tweens.
As with the previous books, the author excels at dropping “hints”, leaving it up to the reader to bring together the pieces of the puzzle. While we, along with Caramel, realize that there is a mystery to be solved, the author provides seemingly innocuous pieces of information such as a conversation overheard (e.g., “The plan is on track”) or observations of unusual behavior (e.g., the Chairman stammering during a speech) or even the mysterious episodes of “dream-walking”, keeping the reader on their toes as they try to unearth the conspiracy. Seriously, I did not see the ending coming; although, fans of Escape From the Forbidden Planet and Return to Cardamom will be delighted to see the return of an old foe.
Ok, I have to say it… the food!! As with the first two books, peppered throughout the story are descriptions of FOOD! Remember the Sticky Date and Chocolate Cake With Caramel Cardamom Sauce from Book 1? Well, in this one, there are discussions of food from a variety of ethnic backgrounds including meat pie, cheeseburgers, seafood risottos, sushi, beef curry, sandwiches, and of course, pizza! My mouth is watering just writing this review! Yum!
My Bottom Line: Stellarcadia features our heroine, Caramel Cinnamon, once again relying on her wits, her instincts, and her good friends to uncover a conspiracy and face off against a new threat. Fans of the first two books in The Adventures of Caramel Cardamom Trilogy will not be disappointed by this quick-paced, action-packed, sci-fi thriller. I recommend this book (and the first two books in the trilogy) to tween readers who love the sci-fi genre or a fast-paced adventure. Ages 8 to 12.
